Community Assistance

Fire Safe Councils & wildfire assistance.

Connect with community organizations and official programs that support wildfire education, preparedness and local fuel-reduction efforts.

Community wildfire support

What Fire Safe Councils do.

Fire Safe Councils are community-based organizations that work with residents, agencies and partners to reduce wildfire risk through education, planning and local projects.

Programs vary by location and available funding. A local council may offer chipping events, workshops, home-assessment programs, volunteer opportunities, community fuel-reduction projects or help developing a Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

Start with San Diego County's council network

The countywide council supports more than 50 local community councils and provides a map to help residents find the council serving their area.

04

Community projects

Neighborhood fuel reduction, roadside projects and wildfire protection planning may be coordinated locally.

Grant-funded homeowner assistance

Need financial or physical help completing the work?

Individual homeowners usually do not apply for a wildfire grant directly. Instead, eligible residents apply to assistance programs operated with grant funding. Eligibility may depend on location, financial need, age, disability or another physical barrier.

Important: Funding, service areas and waitlist status can change. An application does not guarantee service, and some programs begin with a home assessment.
