Structure, access and fuel-zone work

Defensible Space Services

Defensible space and wildfire fuel reduction around structures, access routes and property boundaries.

What the service includes

A site-specific approach.

Every property is evaluated for vegetation type, density, terrain, access, obstacles, debris volume and the finish required.

  • Zone 0, Zone 1 and Zone 2 vegetation-management recommendations
  • Reduction of dead vegetation, ladder fuels and continuous fuel paths
  • Structure, driveway, roadway and improved-property-line clearance where applicable
  • Inspection preparation and forced-abatement mitigation
  • One-time corrective work and recurring annual maintenance

Common applications

Work scaled to the property.

Structure zones

Prioritize the area closest to buildings, then manage outward based on the applicable standard and site conditions.

Access routes

Reduce encroaching vegetation where roadways, driveways and emergency access require maintained clearance.

Inspection support

Translate a notice or cited condition into a clear work scope and provide completion documentation when requested.

Our process

Clear expectations from assessment to completion.

Common questions

What property owners ask.

Is 100 feet always required?

California requirements commonly reference defensible space extending up to 100 feet from a structure or to the property line. Local authorities may apply additional, modified or property-specific requirements.

What about 10-foot roadway and 50-foot improved property-line clearance?

Those standards may apply in certain San Diego-area jurisdictions or notices. We review the specific property, notice and authority having jurisdiction before defining the work.

Does defensible space guarantee a home will survive?

No. It is one layer of risk reduction. Embers, wind, topography, structure construction and fire intensity still affect outcomes.
